Search Pepin Criminal Dockets

Start a Pepin County criminal court docket search with the statewide circuit case index, then narrow the results to Pepin County. The docket itself lists what has happened in a case: charges, filings, hearing settings, status, and an ending when one is public. The Clerk of Circuit Court keeps the filed record behind that index. Keep the split in mind. A docket search can land you on the right case, yet a complaint, motion, order, exhibit, or transcript still takes a separate request to the Clerk.

Pepin County Criminal Docket Searches

The Wisconsin Court System case-search page is the official entry point. Pick Wisconsin Circuit Court Access, called WCCA, to reach a Pepin County Circuit Court case. A case number works best as a search key. Without one, enter the party name. Choose Pepin County, and pick the criminal type that fits. State examples mark CF for felony, CM for misdemeanor, and CT for criminal traffic.

Name searches take some care. The documented advanced workflow says to leave out a middle initial. It also says to skip the birth date. Expect close matches. Check the county, case type, filing date, and full case number before trusting a result. Then keep the case number and event date handy for any Clerk request.

  1. Open the state search page and choose WCCA.
  2. Enter the case number, or use a party name with Pepin County selected.
  3. Choose CF, CM, CT, or the other applicable case type.
  4. Review status, charges, court record events, and settings.
  5. Ask the Clerk for a public filing or certified copy not supplied online.

Pepin Criminal Case Codes

A code in a Pepin County case number is a routing clue. It is not a verdict. CF points to criminal felony, CM to criminal misdemeanor, and CT to criminal traffic. The code keeps a criminal-traffic file from being confused with a general traffic or ordinance matter. It also helps Clerk staff pull the right file. That works when a request carries the complete identifier.

CF marks a criminal felony, CM a criminal misdemeanor, and CT a criminal traffic case on the Pepin County docket. Status tells whether the case is open or closed; read it together with the entries that follow.

A closed label does not erase the docket. Wisconsin guidance warns that later activity can still occur in a closed case. Use WCCA for the event index and the Pepin County Clerk for the official public document.

Criminal Dockets: What They Show

A public Pepin County criminal court docket can list the filing date and case type. Status, events, and public charge data may appear too. The official generic WCCA sample goes further. It adds charge statute, description, severity, disposition, sentence history, amount owed, responsible official, prosecuting agency, and counsel where public. Not every field shows up in every case. A blank may reflect the case stage or an access restriction.

Case NumberThe court identifier and code, such as 2024-CF-000042 as a format illustration only.
StatusAn open or closed label checked against later events.
ChargesPublic statute, description, severity, and disposition fields.
EventsFilings, hearings, orders, pleas, dispositions, and other dated activity.
ParticipantsPublic party roles, attorneys, agency, and responsible official when shown.

A court record event may note that an order was filed. That entry is not the order itself. WCCA holds no document archive. So ask the Pepin County Clerk for a complaint, motion, exhibit, judgment, or order. A transcript follows the court reporter process and differs from a docket printout.

Pepin Criminal Docket Counts

The Wisconsin Court System's 2024 county report sizes up Pepin County criminal work. It counts 42 felony filings. It also counts 36 misdemeanor filings and 30 criminal-traffic filings, labeled as 108 criminal filings in total. These are aggregate court statistics. They name no one, prove no outcome, and do not mean every filing reached trial.

42Felony filings
36Misdemeanor filings
30Criminal-traffic filings

Opened, reactivated, disposed, transferred, and ending-pending figures measure different things. Adding them together creates fake cases. Criminal traffic is also narrower than all traffic and forfeiture tickets. For one Pepin County criminal docket, trust the case number. Trust the event history over the countywide count.

Criminal Case Stages on the Docket

A Pepin County criminal court docket builds up as filings and hearings happen. Arraignment records the plea stage. Pretrial events may bring motions, scheduling, and other court action. A plea or trial can lead to disposition, with sentencing to follow where it applies. Each case takes its own route. An event label proves nothing beyond the filed record.

Read dates with their labels. A filing date is not a hearing date. A disposition may not be the last event. Continuances, amended charges, reopened activity, and post-judgment events can all reshape the history. WCCA may show public settings, while the judicial office schedules the court calendar. Confirm any future hearing before you travel.

Pepin Criminal Records Offline

WCCA covers the online index. The Pepin County Clerk of Circuit Court keeps the filed records and proceedings. Reach the office by calling 715-672-8861. Or write to 740 7th Avenue West, PO Box 39, Durand, WI 54736. Judicial-office hours run Monday through Friday. They are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. State CCAP material says each county courthouse has WCCA terminals, but Pepin publishes no terminal room. So confirm before visiting.

A mailed or counter request should state the case number, case type, party, and event date. It should also name the exact document wanted. Say whether inspection, an ordinary copy, or a certified copy is needed. The current state chart prices ordinary Clerk copies at $1.25 per page. Certification runs $5 plus pages. The chart also lists a $5 docket, judgment, transcript, lien, or warrant category. Pepin County posts no fixed copy turnaround.

For calendar routing, call the judge's office at 715-672-8859. Search WSCCA for appellate history, since Pepin sits in Court of Appeals District III. Federal criminal cases belong to the Western District of Wisconsin, not WCCA.

Pepin County Criminal Docket Courts

One court handles criminal cases in Pepin County. The Circuit Court is Wisconsin's single-level trial court. The Clerk of Court keeps every filed criminal record. Municipal courts, where a city or village runs one, stay busy with ordinance, parking, and traffic tickets. Those cases sit outside the county's circuit criminal docket.

Wisconsin's state directory shows no municipal court for Pepin County, Durand, Pepin, or Stockholm. That leaves room for a joint or contracted arrangement to apply. So read the court field printed on any citation. Confirm it with the office that issued it. A town name by itself never settles who holds the record.

Pepin Criminal Docket Privacy

A Pepin County criminal docket mixes what anyone can see with what the law shields. Charge and defendant fields may be public, while names of victims, witnesses, jurors, and protected parties play by separate rules. Wisconsin guidance also protects Social Security numbers, tax and employer details, bank accounts, driver-license and state-ID numbers, and passports. Never copy those items out of a filing.

Three terms do different work. Redacted content is merely blocked out. Confidential material is restricted by law. Sealed records stay closed by court order or rule. And if a case never shows up in a docket search, that alone proves nothing; it may be sealed, filed under a different code, or sitting with another office.

Access Rules for Criminal Dockets

Wisconsin leans toward open records, yet confidentiality still governs certain cases. Juvenile, mental-health, sealed, and protected matters each demand their own handling. Holding an eFiling account does not open Pepin County criminal documents to a nonparty. WCCA serves the public. eFiling serves parties and attorneys. They are two different systems.

Key Rules:

Wis. Stat. § 19.31 states the public-records policy, subject to exceptions.

Wis. Stat. § 801.20 addresses redaction of protected court information.

Wis. Stat. § 801.21 governs sealed and confidential material.

Where access runs thin, ask the clerk which restriction applies and what steps are still open. Staff will walk you through access, costs, and routing. Legal strategy, though, is not their job.

Pepin Criminal Payment Records

WCCA may show an amount owed where the record is public. Even so, a balance is just one field in the case. Pepin's local payment page takes cash, checks, money orders, and cards at the counter, with a card fee added. Mail goes by check or money order payable to Pepin County Clerk of Court. Write the case or citation number in the memo. There is an after-hours drop box inside the Sheriff's Department entrance.

Paying is not the same as reading the docket. The local page posts several PLC numbers for online routing. Pick the category that matches the current instruction and case. Any question about a balance or a missed payment should include that case or citation number. Confirm the payment processor and instructions before sending money.
